Commercial Products

Roots has developed a commercially viable root zone temperature optimization technology. The Company is seeking to gain market share and acceptance of its products in the following prioritized territories: North and Central America, Europe, South Africa, Australia and Southeast Asia.

The Company is developing and commercialising three technologies and products (including the intellectual property associated with each technology) to meet the challenges of global agriculture  by focusing on:

  • Root zone temperature optimisation – the Company’s key focus
  • Irrigation by condensation – which provides water for irrigation from moisture in the air and soil, a complementary solution to RZTO; currently in proof-of-concept stage
  • An integrated, all in one, multi-function pipe to supply water and fertilisers coupled with root zone cooling/heating; this combined product will decrease fertilisation
RZT alone  >>
Special coil-shaped pipes are installed in pits dug to a depth where the soil temperature is stable, as part of a closed-loop system whose upper pipes run through the root zone. As water flows through the deeper pipes, it is charged with the stable temperature. The charged water is then circulated to the upper pipes in the root zone where the heat or chill is discharged, to maintain stable and favorable root zone temperatures throughout the year. The only energy needed to operate this Ground Soil Heat Exchange (GSHE) system is the pump that circulates the water in the closed loop.
Hybrid – coils + heat pump  >>
A GSHE system supported with a heat pump, for situations where the crop requires additional or more accurate heating and cooling of the root zone. This system relies on GSHE to produce stable water temperatures to feed the heat pump or water tank, and the heat pump adds the delta required to reach the desired temperature.
Heat pump alone  >>
In locations where digging is not possible (such as rocky soil or high underground water level), the Company installs heat pumps together with a circulation pump. The pumps are remotely controlled by the farmer to provide root zone heating and cooling as needed.
